MODERN LOVE

An intimate outdoor ceremony can check all the boxes when it comes to romance. While beach, mountain and garden settings are the typical options, an urban venue can be even more unique. Think high-rise buildings, twinkling city lights and dramatic bird’s-eye views for you and your guests. This city wedding inspiration is set at PalmWood in downtown Fort Worth’s Frost Tower. The styled shoot puts a spin on the contemporary setting by adding natural elements, including dry and fresh florals, a dramatic wood arch that complements the wood chairs and a soft color palette of blue, taupe, cream and gold. We asked the pros who set up this shoot about the small-wedding trend.

TAYLOR BRADFORD Sugar Creek Creative Microweddings were trending even prior to COVID-19. Also known as ‘tiny weddings ,’ they were designed for a guest count of 20 or less. Now we’re seeing microweddings include guest counts between 50 and 75. What makes them special is that you are able to focus more on the design and experience of the wedding versus having to allot a chunk of your wedding budget feeding people, which is where a large amount of money has to be budgeted if your guest count is high. It’s the attention to detail in the design that makes a microwedding different. It shifts the budget in a way so that more can be used to create a dream wedding and experience for the couple and their guests.

ASHLEY MCNABB Ashley McNabb Artistry As far as microweddings go , you can still make it as romantic and intimate as you like. Florals and ceremony backdrops play such a pivotal role. Hire your favorite photographer for those special moments, and most importantly, feel completely glamorous getting hair and makeup done just as you would for a larger ceremony. These moments will last forever through photographs, so having your hair and makeup done just the way you always dreamed can still happen. Side note McNabb also served as the model in these photos.

JUSTINE CHAPURA Justine’s Flowers Microweddings have given our clients an opportunity to really splurge on their floral decor, be super creative and think outside the box. We usually start with the bridal bouquet. Why not use these unusual times to create an avant-garde bouquet? Fewer guests means fewer tables to decorate, so do something special for every guest like a flower bloom tucked into a napkin or a petite vase for each place setting. Brides have the opportunity to use their savings to create some really beautiful statement pieces, such as a stunning floral backdrop or aisle decor for the ceremony. There’s also the option of decorations for the cocktail hour, bar top and accent florals , which often clients have on their wish list. Then there’s the cake and cake table. A smaller cake can look even more grand with the addition of beautiful, over-the-top table florals.

JAMIE HOLDER Creme de la Creme Cake Company Microwedding cakes are definitely a great fit for brides who don’t want to stress about every little detail. Both wedding and groom’s cakes are still stunning, still yummy and very much on trend with what you’re seeing on Instagram. They look amazing with fresh florals, mixed fresh fruit and a fluted cake stand. We work with brides who leave the design up to us or send us reference pictures if they are wanting something more custom, and we’ve been offering curbside tastings to keep everyone safe with social distancing.

ADRIANNE PORCELLI Turquoise Video Productions When the guest count of a wedding needs to be smaller, we now offer livestreaming — the ceremony only or the entire day — so that guests who can’t be there in person can still be there ‘live.’ They can leave comments on the livestream so that the bride and groom can read and enjoy them at their convenience after the event.

TRISH DOVE and ANDY ROSINE BeatBox Portraits Microweddings have been used by the celebrity circle for years; what better way to feel like the stars than be able to celebrate your union of vows on multiple dates and occasions. Have a small, private ceremony now and then a big bash with family and friends at a later date. From a photography standpoint, we’ve noticed that the microwedding vows are more sentimental , and the portraits of the couple show even more emotion and joy. Less stress can equal more love. With a smaller guest count, couples have more opportunities to visit and make memories with their VIP family and friends. We’re able to photograph more authentic moments, too.

WENDY HOLSOMBACK Bliss Bridal Salon Microweddings are a perfect way to create a more intimate and personal event. Prolong the festivities with a bigger celebration at a later date. Who wouldn’t want another reason to wear their gown? Although weddings might be smaller at this time, the bride and what she’s wearing are still the focal point of many memories and photographs, so that special gown is still just as important.

The gown pictured Madi Lane Bridal ‘s Haven comes with a detachable tulle shawl. The dress features a traditional sweetheart ballgown silhouette with floral textured lace and a full tulle skirt with embroidered lace appliques.
