Shannon and Josh met through an internship at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma during January of 2017. Shannon was in the process of completing her master’s degree at Texas A&M University when she accepted the equine breeding internship, and Josh was completing a one-year veterinary internship post-veterinary school. They worked together on the ranch for several months before Josh finally confessed his feelings for her and they decided to go on their first date.

Josh proposed to Shannon on a trip to visit her parents in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. They love watching sunrises and sunsets together, so she wasn’t suspicious of him when he asked her to wake up early for a sunrise hike. Once the sun started to rise, Josh got down on one knee and popped the question, and Shannon couldn’t help but beam the whole way down the mountain. He then surprised her by meeting their close friends and family who traveled to celebrate the couple over brunch!

Details & Inspiration

Shannon and Josh found inspiration for their wedding day through their colors. From cream, mauve, rust and pinks, they created the rustic fall wedding of their dreams.

One of the first wedding priorities on Shannon’s list was finding a photographer. Not only did Kasey Cody of Kasey Cody & Co. capture the magic of their special day, but she also designed their stationery. She created watercolor portraits from the couple’s engagement session.

The couple knew they wanted to create a brand that combined their last names for the ceremony. They discovered that Last Hughes Creative Co. designs wooden frames, so they fire branded their new brand on the framed cowhide that is now hanging in their home.

Moments & Memories

Shannon and Josh splurged on their wedding venue, and she’s so thankful they did! She hates leaving weddings once they’re over, so they planned for a venue that allowed their wedding party and families to stay the night. Kendall Loft at Treasured Heart Events planned their wedding and brought Shannon’s vision to life. “She kept everyone on schedule and the day running smoothly,” Shannon said.

Josh wanted to surprise Shannon by being the one to pick their first dance song. She has been a fan of Elvis Presley since she was a little girl, so when “Can’t Help Falling in Love” started playing, she was overwhelmed with emotion.

Shannon’s favorite moment of wedding planning was seeing everything come together. “It was hard for me to picture every detail we planned,” Shannon said. “To see it all on the wedding day was incredible. All my vendors truly made my vision come true even when I sometimes couldn’t picture it myself.”
