‘The perfect place for us’

The Fort Worth Zoo was just the right spot for this local couple

Amid the breathtaking 10-acre expanse of the African Savanna, Danny Cunningham and Fort Worth-native Ryann Showmaker said “I do” recently at the Fort Worth Zoo.

Ryann, a yoga studio owner and beekeeper along with her husband, loved the exotic elegance of the local zoo and the sense of wildness it brought to their big day.

Ryann and Danny met on a double-date conspired by their best friends. Their initial attraction quickly blossomed into something much greater.

Just shy of two years together, the two were on a late-spring ski trip to Big Sky, Montana, snowshoeing up a remote mountain, when Danny got down on one knee and asked Ryann to marry him.

“I remember being so shocked and full of happiness,” she says. “With tears in both of our eyes, I said a thousand times yes.”

After making their way from Big Sky to Jackson Hole, the giddy groom-to-be said, “it would be amazing if we could get married at the zoo.”

Ryann said right as the words came out, she knew.

“My face lit up, and I just knew that was the perfect place for us,” she shared. “We were so excited and knew in our hearts that was where we wanted to commit our lives to each other with our family and friends surrounding us.”

After making a few planning decisions early on, Ryann enjoyed adding personal touches and felt confident in planning the wedding and making it unique for them.

The first thing she purchased were her bridesmaids’ dresses: bright orange and blue silk with butterflies flying on them.

The ethereal bride donned a custom Berta dress, Christian Louboutin heels, and sapphire mother-of-pearl flower earrings, which were a cherished gift from her grandmother. Elegant flowers, along with a headpiece to match the gold vines on her dress and earrings adorned her head. The groom channeled a James Bond look, sporting a custom tuxedo from Q Clothier and a Brackish bird feather bow tie, which he also gifted to all the groomsmen (who got to choose their own styles).

From epic, vibrant floral arches and dramatic statement pieces to dreamy string floral and bright ribbon hanging from the trees, the big-day blooms were nothing short of a masterpiece, thanks to Camellia Farm Flora. After the ceremony, the newlyweds and guests enjoyed a cocktail hour amongst giraffes and stilt walkers, dinner under three hundred brightly-colored silk umbrellas which hung under the reception tent, a 10-piece band that played hits across the genres, a beehive groom’s cake inspired from the couple’s hobby as beekeepers, and more. A 1949 Rolls Royce whisked them away from the surrounding sparklers and crowd of well-wishers. Next stop, a dreamy honeymoon across Istanbul, Santorini and Athens. Favorite moment? “Hearing him say his vows looking straight into my eyes while holding back tears,” Ryann says. “I’ll never forget it.”
