The Love Story

Hunter and I met in high school through marching band. I was in the drumline and Hunter was a trumpet player. We knew each other for 4 years prior, but we never talked because I thought he was annoying. During the summer before our senior year, Hunter began to start talking to me, and then after a few months, we began dating. Hunter and I went through our senior year of high school and graduated together. We went through 3 difficult years of long distance while I was in college. With Hunter losing his childhood home and my own personal conflicts, we made it through those years by communicating and sticking together. Hunter and I adopted our first dog together, Skye, and now are living in Weatherford where we both have stable full-time jobs.

The Proposal

I kind of ruined this. Hunter was planning on proposing to me in New York City where I wanted to take a trip in December 2021. Instead, we decided to save our money and take a day trip to Fort Worth. On March 18th, Hunter planned the day and our first stop was the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. When we got there and got out of the car, he “dropped his phone” (yeah right). I didn’t know about his idea of proposing to me throughout all of this until I noticed he became nervous. Apparently, he was looking around for the photographer (one of his old friends) that he asked to capture the moment. Hunter said he had to “go to the bathroom” so he could call him. Finally, we were walking down a path with multiple arches where he turned me (this is when I 100% knew). Hunter asked me to marry him and I don’t think I let him finish his sentence before I yelled YES and pulled him up to give him a big hug. After this, he took me all over Fort Worth where we went to a very nice lunch and he took me to the stockyards for the very first time.

The Wedding Venue

We began to think about the vibe we give and what would be the perfect location for us to become one. We knew a farmhouse would be perfect for our personalities and reached out to Five Oaks Farm to set up a tour. Upon first glance of this venue, we knew it was it! Five Oaks Farm has an amazing Owner, Melody Ball, and a great setup with multiple ceremony sites. This allowed us to have a choice with options.

The Vibe

Our wedding was very laid back but also elegant. As our bridal party wore bridesmaid dresses and jeans with boots. This allowed guests to have a more open range of outfit choices including jeans and button down shirts. We hoped our guests felt like family and comfortable when they were standing beside us at the ceremony or even on the dance floor busting a move.

The Photography

When we were looking for a photographer, we weren’t only looking at the pictures but we wanted the right personality. Whitney did an astonishing job of taking our pictures and I am very thankful for her. I love her editing style and tone behind her pictures, as the tone was the most important predictor for our style. Whitney is flexible and down to earth and she made us feel very comfortable.

The Dress

My inspiration for my dress came from the opposite of what I wore in high school. I knew I was grown and mature and wanted something that would show me off a little more than other dresses. I was recommended to visit Elizabeth Scott Bridal to find my dress. I tried on 7 that day and of course the first one I tried on was the one. I retried it on and just knew this was meant for me, my body, and my personality. Kelsey was an amazing person to work alongside as she made me feel comfortable and accepted any feedback I had regarding my style and the right dress for me.

The Accessories

I chose to do simplicity with my jewelry including a small necklace and dangly earrings from Kendra Scott. These kept the attention at my dress and overall look rather than being full bling. My veil similarly was minimal detail to have the focus on the dress.

The Bridesmaids

I chose maroon, greens, and neutral because I am an Aggie and that is one of the biggest parts of my personality. I found it important for my girls to be comfortable so in regard to style, they chose what fits their body best. They were directed on color and had flexibility in the style and jewelry type. Doing a first look with my bridesmaids was one of the best parts of my day with them.

The Groomsmen

The groomsmen pulled the vibe together by their neutral look with jeans and boots. They coordinated with the overall theme and were comfortable in their daily wear.

The Wedding Rings

My husband picked out my engagement band and created it himself. We were together to get our wedding bands which are fitting to our personality. They are from Jared’s.

The Hair and Makeup

The vision for my hair and makeup was natural and comfortable. My hair being in a ponytail is different from my normal but this allowed me to feel cooler during the day and have the volume I wanted. My makeup was very well done and my stylist was so inviting and flexible. I used a lot of Pinterest to find my initial inspiration and did a mock trial with it pulling it all together.

The Stationery

Our stationary was all done by hand! My maid of honor, husband, and I worked endless hours to perfect our stationery. We used a sense of delicacy with the farm esthetic to make our invitation. A lot of inspiration came from Pinterest. My maid of honor also had a cricut to help with personalization.

The Florals

The florals were all handpicked by our wonderful florist. I showed her some inspiration I found on Pinterest and she really made it come to life. We stuck with the beautiful greens and accented with our maroon and luscious cream. This palette is very important to me as an Aggie and really brought out our personalities.

The Morning Of

The morning of my wedding, I was super anxious but was also super excited to become a married woman. When I arrived, I began to help my girls decorate and bring my vision to life. This was exhilarating for me. As everything came together, from the amazing makeup artist to my venue decor, I began to cry and cry from joy. My husband and I were able to do a first touch which was the most memorable part of our entire day.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was conducted by my closest uncle who was able to perform our joining together. We wrote our own vows and presented them during our first look pre-ceremony. Our ceremony was very traditional, as our focus was beforehand.

The Reception

Our reception was fun and full of dances. I provided a speech to my mother and dedicated my bouquet to her while thanking her for her time and dedication to raising me to be independent and find the right man. A bridesmaid was dedicated to being my dance floor queen where she got everyone dancing and having a good time when I was preoccupied.

The Planning

The wedding planning journey was stressful to say the least. Kendra’s Events helped me a TON by providing me with a checklist. My husband did such an amazing job with helping make decisions and calm my stressors. My maid of honor was the most perfect pick to have by my side and help me through the hardest times of planning. Staying late at her house doing DIY decor was my favorite memory planning.

The Food

Our food was outstanding for a catered event that provided a variety of BBQ options with the best sides made from scratch. They also had options for our vegetarian guests. They were amazing.

The Favorite Moment

My favorite moment on my wedding day was our first touch and private vow reading. This was vulnerable and emotional for us both.

The Unexpected

The unexpected was handled by my amazing day of coordinator as I had no idea when something went wrong, she handled this so well.

The Honeymoon

We went to the Dominican Republic and flew out at 5:30am the day after our wedding. Of course we were tired, but this was the best way to kick off our marriage. We had the best time swimming, having cocktails, and playing cards when it rained.

The Advice

I would advise any bride to confide in their future husbands, bridesmaids, and trust the process. Your vision will come to life if you give it the time.
